Robin Williams Video Game Appearance Requested [Video]

robin williams

Since his untimely death, details surrounding Robin Williams and his life and appearance, or likeness, have been requested  just about everywhere, including the world of video games. Many longtime fans have looked for new ways to honor the successful actor and outspoken gamer. Some fans have now taken to the Internet and Nintendo to ask for a very specific honor to be bestowed postmortem on Williams. This is following a separate petition that has already convinced Blizzard designers to place a tribute of some kind in their expansive online world as well.

A petition was distributed through social media means, gathering traction and signatures everywhere until 90,000 names were added in less than a week. The purpose of the petition was brought to Nintendo, one of the three biggest video game and home console publishers, in a request to have Williams appear in the upcoming Legend of Zelda game in some way. The Zelda series, one of the oldest and most storied in games today, is well known for friendly, light-hearted characters, qualities that fans and friends of Williams would readily use to describe him.

Nintendo responded quickly and solemnly to the request, acknowledging his death as a tragedy. “Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo,” a representative said. “We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community,” their statement continued, “and hear the request…to honor him in a future game.”

The response went on to extend their condolences to Zelda Williams, but stopped short of directly appeasing the petition by simply saying this wasn’t the proper time to discuss possibilities for future games. Their statement ended saying the company will “hold our memories of Robin close.”

Robin Williams was not a video game lover by appearance alone; he was known for readily speaking about any of his favorite titles when requested. The Legend of Zelda  series was so loved by the actor and comedian that he named his daughter after the main heroine of the games, Princess Zelda. In an ad done for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D release on Nintendo 3DS, Williams called both Princess Zelda and his daughter “pretty magical.”

Another of his favorite series, World of Warcraft, has already confirmed that it has a Williams tribute in the works. Ian Hazzikostas, lead designer on the massively-multiplayer online game, offered a statement for the company, calling them all “massive Robin Williams fans.” The company was also well aware of his presence within their online world. As far as the tribute itself, there’s nothing set in stone, as of yet, but it may end up being either a character or a series of characters based on his past roles.

The requested Robin Williams appearance in popular video games from thousands of people stands as a testament in the eyes of major companies such as Nintendo and Blizzard. He said once that he treated games as a way to escape from the grind of daily, rigorous life. He was joined by many other people that loved to share these imagined worlds with Robin Williams. No timeline was released by Blizzard on when their tribute would appear.

Google Rolls Out New YouTube App for TVs, Makes It All More Easy to Find

new youtube tv

Google announced this morning that they have begun rolling out a new YouTube app for TV that has been designed for the big screen. They started initially with the XBOX One, but will roll the new app out to other streaming devices over the following weeks.

The new app makes everything easy to find and navigate, thanks to slideout guide on the left side, just like the one you will find on phones and tablets. Once signed in, you can access your subscriptions or recommendations, open playlists and as Google suggests in their blog post, essentially turn your TV into whatever you need it to be.

The Advantages of Updating to Android L

In latest Ask a Dev video, Android architect Brian Parent discusses whether you should update your app with Android L.

Keeping in mind that Android L is still in developer preview, he recommends you should always make plans to test and update your app every time a new version of Android is released.

As far as keeping up with design, the Holo theme is still supported in L, but over time users will expect to see designs more in line with new Material Design.

Material Design is a new design philosophy, not an Android release, so there's no reason why it should be exclusive to L. You can already begin applying the concepts to earlier releases of Android.

Four Video Game Commercials That Spoof Other Commercials

Commercials are hard to make, which is why sometimes the best answer is to look at other commercials and just do that – but slightly different. Collected below are some video game commercials that look to other commercials for... let's call it inspiration.
Bulletstorm

Probably the most obvious direct parody, this Bulletstorm commercial (seen above) is an undisguised spoof of Halo 3's popular Believe commercial, which you can see below.

Most of Bulletstorm's general promotion was designed to make fun of other games, but this commercial was the most direct among its many parodies.
Battletanx

Battletanx was an ultimately forgettable Nintendo 64 game (with an impressively named protagonist) whose commercial (seen above) sought to spoof a fabric softener commercial, something that has very little to do with video games.

The campaign must have been successful because not only was a Battletanx 2 released, but a follow-up commercial featured a pseudo-sequel to tale of the fabric softener pushing stuffed bear whose life was turned upside down by a tank. Above you will find what the bear's life was like before the tanks changed everything.

Blur

Less a direct parody of a specific commercial, and more of a spoof of kart racing games, this Blur commercial accomplished two feats: it made you interested in playing Blur, and it made you feel like a loser for enjoying Mario Kart.

It could really be a spoof of any commercial for any kart racing game, but I prefer the one above.

Steve Young Football

This commercial for Steve Young Football is different from the other games on this list for a few reasons. As far as I know, it never actually aired on TV, and it's the only game that doesn't start with a 'B'. The other thing about this parody is that it makes no sense – which is why I enjoy it so much.

The original My Buddy commercial (seen above) was about a toddler-sized doll that you could take everywhere because that's what the catchy song said you were supposed to do. The Steve Young Football commercial begins as near shot-for-shot remake of the original, but follows the exploits of an adult wearing overalls excitedly taking his iPad and Steve Young Football game everywhere. It's a strange mash-up, but one I will always appreciate.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Story Campaign Trailer Released

The official single player story campaign trailer for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare was released and it is breathtakingly good.

Power is everything and it is the sole line between the good and bad people depicted in this imaginary story. The power lies with a private military organization named Atlas. Everything is run by the character played by Kevin Spacey, the actor who is known for his role in the famous political television series House of Cards. Things don’t look great for the national governments because they have handed over everything to someone who is not supposed to be in power and he starts making decisions that has the potential to change the world as we know it.
The storyline might sound relatively simple to hear, but in the trailer, it looks amazing with visuals that will keep you glued to the screen for a long time. It has all the potential elements of a great story that you would ask for including an engaging story, characters with depth, cinematic action sequences and other elements that Sledgehammer games are usually associated with. It is definitely going to be a game that fulfils all the promises that has been made on its behalf.

The Story
The new story trailer for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare revealed a brief glimpse into the story. When terrorist organizations manage to activate five different nuclear reactors in different countries, they take hold of almost everything including the government. The military that is supposed to stop them lacks the power and weapons to go against such powerful enemies. When everything falls apart, they seek help from a private military corporation named Atlas.
The company promises that they have all the advanced weapons and gadgets that could literally crush the terrorists. As promised, they save all the countries which is like putting the world back together. Because of their act, they are trusted with rebuilding the cities that got devastated during the attack. Years later, the owner of Atlas, Kevin Spacey, decides to attack a country and when the government stops him, he concludes that he is a private organization and does not answer to any congressional representatives. This is where the actual war begins where futuristic weapons and gadgets play an important role.

Amazing Graphics and Censored Scenes
The trailer of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare definitely revealed almost everything about the single player campaign and it also confirmed that the game is going to look great on powerful PC hardware as well as a new generation of consoles. While the question of which hardware is going to display the game best will be a hot topic in November, it is without doubt that the game will look gorgeous with amazing graphics on all the three platforms. Kevin Spacey’s acting in the lead role is definitely going to be a milestone for the actor as well as the game developers who have nicely infused his part into a game. It should bring life to the story and make it as cinematic as possible. The game’s multiplayer reveal is scheduled for November 8th.

This is How Good the Samsung Galaxy S5 Camera can Be

The camera in the Galaxy S5 is pretty awesome. In our review, we noted that Samsung is once again leading the charge for mobile optics with the release of this year’s flagship phone. The GS5′s camera can take pictures with incredible detail, thanks to its 16MP sensor, but also does a fantastic job of capturing brilliant colors when it needs to without overdoing it.

To continue to show how impressive their cameras can be, Samsung released the video above, which takes us on a tour of Trieste, Italy during a day from sunrise to sunset. The video was shot entirely with a Galaxy S5. While it’s obvious that some sort of professional crew was behind it all, you can’t help but be impressed by the results.

Motorola's Digital Tattoo Unlocks the Moto X With a Tap

Motorola's Digital Tattoo Unlocks the Moto X With a Tap

That blotch on the man's arm there isn't a bruise from where he was restrained by the police last night, it's a digital tattoo. A thin electronic film that sticks on and lets you securely unlock your phone with a tap of your arm, neck or wherever you stick it, using NFC.

The tattoos have gone on sale in the US, with Moto X users able to buy a pack of 10 of these digital tattoos for $9.99. They're supposed to last for five days each, until your hectic gym/sports routine wears them away. If you mostly stay at home on the internet, they might survive a little longer.

The new Apple iPhone advert: 'narcissistic numpties'

Lycra-clad blokes bouncing on beds to wake up their understandably furious wives! Bare hench ladies running up steps like Rocky! Slobs standing on bathroom scales and huffing at the results! Yes, sports fans, it’s Apple’s unnaturally upbeat “strength” ad, flogging fitness apps, “wearable tech” (ack) and workout accessories for the iPhone 5s. No pain, no gain, you patronising Genius Bar pricks.

This is the generation for whom the mere act of doing exercise isn’t enough. Oh no, they have to bore everyone else titless with it, too: standing around office watercoolers in camel toe-enhancing shorts, loudly droning about cycling; arriving at places with wet hair and flushed cheeks, boasting about “cardio”, “delts” and “quads”; faux casually announcing that they rose at dawn for a “hardcore” yoga session to feel “the burn”, “the shred” and the “shit off”. These narcissistic numpties can’t even do a few press-ups or go jogging without obsessively logging it on their phone, no doubt so they can post thrilling social-media updates like, “I just ran 6.6km using the Smug+ app #whogivesaflyingfeck”, filling everyone on a sofa with low-level guilt and deep, dark loathing, while taking the edge right off our Pepperoni Passion and Don’t Tell The Bride combo. It’s all soundtracked by Chicken Fat, a novelty hit first released in 1961 to get lard-arsed American schoolkids to do exercise. Yep, Apple has turned into a hi-tech Mr Motivator. Sorry, glorified Derrick Evans, but the only Chicken Fat we’re bovved about are the delicious globules clinging to our BBQ wings. Mmm, iPoultry.

Moto 360: It's Time - Video

Moto 360 made a cameo at Google IO, but its official price and release date did not. On Page 1, we revised the specs. On Page 2, Motorola hints at the launch price.

The Moto 360 watch is the circular wonder that runs Android Wear, Google's software designed to work on all sorts of wearables starting with smartwatches.

It's not another wearable with a square-shaped display like the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live. No, this Google watch ditches the computerized boxy design seen in the Pebble Steel and Samsung Gear 2.

Watch the Video of its craftsmanship.
