Toshiba Launches World's First 4K Laptop In India for Rs. 86,000

With a few market leaders in the laptop business deciding to quit, Toshiba India is looking to cash in on it and has launched nine new laptops catering to consumers and enterprise class of section. As a part of plans to introduce high-end laptops, the Satellite P50 laptop with Windows 8.1 has been launched at a price of Rs 86,000.

With Sony, SamsungLGHCL and Wipro exiting the market, the company claims that these new high end laptops will infuse a fresh lease of life into the laptop category and is gunning to be among the top three player by FY 15.


Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, Sanjay Warke, country head of Toshiba, said “Currently, we have a marketshare of 6 in laptops, and we are looking to be among the top three players in this segment. Today, laptop category is not seeing growth due to lack of innovations. Our new range of laptops are spin around innovations and caters to all the consumer sections. We are putting endeavour to revive this laptop market through new products and effective marketing campaign of ‘Greatest of all’.”

The features of the laptops

Satellite P50
It is the world’s first UltraHD or 4K display on a notebook. The TruBrite 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels and is touch compatible as well.  It is powered by a fourth generation Intel Core series processor (Core i7-4700HQ) with 6M Cache, and a clock speed of up to 3.40 GHz. The laptop can be configured with up to 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L RAMand has an AMD Radeon R9 M265X dedicated GPU, with 1TB of HDD space and comes with shock protection.

The Satellite S40-B
Being 19.3mm thick, it weighs less than 2KG and is priced at Rs 50,790. It also has a 14-inch Full HD display, 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor, a 1TB hard disk, 4GB of RAM (maximum up to 16GB) and a 2GB AMD graphics card.

Satellite L series
Depending on the configuration, Satellite L series has been priced between Rs 15,785 and Rs 51,340. With a 15.6-inch HD display, Onkyo speakers with DTS Sound, USB 3.0 ports, USB-sleep-and-charge technology, the company is offering multiple CPU options such as a quad-core AMD A4-5000 processor or a 2.17GHz quad-core Intel Pentium N3520 processor or a  1.7GHz fourth-generation Intel Core i3 processor or a 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor. It starts with 2GB of RAM and can take in up to 16GB.

The Portege Z10
It features a detachable screen, with a rather clunky clasp in the middle, and the keyboard dock features backlit keys. A Windows 8.1 ultrabook features 11.6-inch Full HD display protected by Corning Concore Glass and supports touch input as well as digitizer input. This one also comes in four processor options, but they are all Intel Core models. Buyers can choose up to 4GB of RAM and between Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8.1

The Tecra Z40
A business laptop with 14-inch HD display. It is powered by a 2.1GHz Intel i7 processor and comes with 4GB RAM and Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 7 Pro. It also has a fingerprint reader for enhanced security.

Moreover, Toshiba is also looking at colleges and school students with the ‘back to school campaign’. The company has introduced additional two year free warranty on laptops, through which it is looking to push the sale of its laptops among students.

Warke also pointed out, “Today, the laptop penetration in India is just 4 percent, and we see huge untapped market for our laptops. Therefore, our laptop strategy is around key areas product innovations, geographic expansion, retail ramp up and services. The idea is to gain marketshare, in each town and understand the laptop potential in each towns and states to become top three player.”

The new 2014 range introduces World’s first Ultra HD 4K laptop and new series of detachable laptops and Toshiba’s foray in workstation segment.
