THE NAME WII U IS 'ABYSMAL,' FORMER NINTENDO INDIE BOSS SAYS

After being asked if Nintendo deserves the current financial situation it's in, Dan Adelman, Nintendo's former head of indie publishing, said the Wii U's name is hurting sales.

"Wii U is not selling as well as it deserves to," he said during a recent Q&A session on ask.fm. "It has a lot to offer with great games you can't get anywhere else. The value of the GamePad hasn't been justified. But the name Wii U is abysmal. I think that cut sales in half right there."

Many of the questions directed at Adelman during the recent Q&A regarded Nintendo's internal disputes and weak sales in recent years, seeing as how internal dispute seems to be the main reason Adelman left Nintendo of America.

He was the helm for Nintendo's indie publishing for nine years before leaving the company. Before a pattern of conflicts encouraged him to walk away, he courted indie developers and worked to bring games like Cave Story to Nintendo's platforms.

But last September, Nintendo banned Adelman from using Twitter because of comments he had made that criticized the 3DS's region-locking. On Monday, Adelman left Nintendo, announcing via Twitter that he had struck a deal with Nintendo that allowed him to Tweet again.

"Arrangement includes my not working there anymore," he said.

As of now, Adelman said he plans to continue working with independent developers in some capacity, and wants to encourage self-publishing.
