Xiaomi sells 40,000 Redmi 1S units in 4.2 seconds

Xiaomi conducted the first flash sale for its affordable Redmi 1S (smartphone) priced at Rs 5,999 today (on Tuesday). And just like the previous Mi3 flash sales, the Redmi 1S was out of stock within a few seconds.

Xiaomi confirmed on its Facebook page that this time the sale was over within 4.2 seconds. The registration for the next sale will begin at 6 p.m. today and the sale will go live next Tuesday (September 9, 2014).

The Redmi 1S received over 250,000 registrations. Unlike the Mi3, where only 10,000 units were up for grabs, around 40,000 units of Redmi 1S were available for sale.

The Redmi 1S features a 4.7-inch display and is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad core processor, paired with 1 GB of RAM. It features an 8 MP camera; 8 GB internal storage and 2000 mAh battery. This is a dual SIM smartphone operating on Android 4.3 and competes against the Motorola Moto E.

With today's flash sale of the Redmi 1S, those of the Mi3 have now been put on hold.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S: Flipkart begins pre-booking for Rs 5,999 phone

Close on the heels of the success of the Xiaomi Mi3, Flipkart today began the pre-booking registrations for the budget smartphone Xiaomi Redmi 1S on this link – Flipkart Xiaomi Redmi 1S. The new Xiaomi Redmi 1S sports a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Cortex-A7 core, 8 mega-pixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 28mm wide angle lens, and front camera with 1.6 mega-pixels. The pre-booking registrations that began on August 26 will end on September 1 midnight, after which the phone will be launched.

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S also boasts of a 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 display, WCDMA slot for 3G and GSM slot for 2G data, RAM of 1 GB and 8GB Flash memory. The Redmi 1S comes with Mini SIM slot, and not Micro SIM slot. It reportedly runs on Android Jelly Bean.

There is a lot of buzz in the Indian market about the Xiaomi brand. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S being an affordable alternative with good features, will compete in terms of goodwill with the September launches of the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

Xiaomi to launch more products in India; Redmi 1S smartphone first in line

Encouraged by the stupendous demand for its Mi3 smartphone, Chinese smartphone-maker, Xiaomi would be launching its other products all within this year and the Redmi 1S smartphone in a couple of weeks.

Xiaomi had made quite a stir with its Mi3 flash sale on Flipkart and all its handsets were sold within minutes in the four sales. The company apologized to the customers (approximately a lakh who have registered to get the handset) and said it has underestimated the Indian market’s demand.

Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra has now said that the company would be launching some of its other products in India and the Redmi 1S smartphone would be launched probably by the end of next week. The accessories of the smartphone would also be made available during its launch.

Next, the company is trying to launch the Redmi Note phablet priced at ₹9,999 during Diwali, as the company is aware that during the festive season the demand of such gadgets shoots up tremendously.

The last launch that has been tentatively schedule from the company is the Mi Pad and these would arrive in the country by the end of this year along with one of its other product the Mi4. These two products are undergoing certification in India.

Meanwhile, the company has said that accessories for the Mi3 would be arriving in India in another couple of weeks.
