Samsung Boosts Galaxy Lineup With 4 New Smartphones

By on 13:21

As if Samsung's Galaxy lineup wasn't vast enough, the company is adding four new budget-friendly smartphones to the mix.
Unveiled Monday, the Galaxy Core II (left), Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Ace 4, and Galaxy Young 2 all come with Samsung's TouchWiz Essence interface and run the latest Android 4.4 operating system. There's no word yet as to whether these new devices will make their way to the U.S., or how much they'll cost, though Samsung stressed that they will be affordable.
The Core II is the largest and most powerful of the lot with a 4.5-inch display and 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It has a "leather-like" back cover and comes in either black or white. The dual-SIM handset comes with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, and a 2,000mAh battery.

The Ace 4 (right), available in either LTE or 3G, has a smaller 4-inch screen, a 5-megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and room for a microSD card up to 64GB. The LTE version sports a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1800mAh battery while the 3G model has a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1500mAh battery.
The 3.5-inch Young 2 is "compact yet fully equipped" with a 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a 1300mAh battery, and 3-megapixel camera. The Star 2 has similar specs as the Young 2 but with a downgraded 2-megapixel camera. Both come with eight downloadable Gameloft games.
Meanwhile, Monday morning also brought new rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. According to Sammobile, the scaled-down version of Samsung's flagship phone will be released in mid-July, around the same time the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini went on sale last year.
