GOOGLE IS TINKERING with the design of Chrome OS, the operating system that runs on its Chromebook laptops.
Project Athena will have an entirely revamped user interface (UI) which brings Chrome much closer to the planned design of the recently announced Android L mobile operating system.
Google's Francois Beaufort, who reguarly reveals news of the company's plans on Google+, has shown screenshots of the work in progress, revealing a flatter, more spacious interface.
However there is still much to do before public release of the new version, which is not even fit for the developer Canary channel yet, with no indication of when it will be completed.
If you simply can't wait, it is possible to compile a version of Chromium with the new design so far, but it isn't recommended for the faint of heart.
The convergence between Android and Chrome has been a theme in recent weeks, with the intention being to allow Android apps to run within the Chrome environment.
