Sonny Dickson has leaked an image of what he claims are Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 handsets
Well-known Apple leaker, Sonny Dickson, has struck again with a set of images purporting to show off Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 handsets. Both the 4.7in and 5.5in versions are shown, front and back. Talk of Apple’s upcoming iPhone launches have hit something of a crescendo in recent months, with leaked images, spec details and reliable sources chiming in left, right and centre with updates on just what we can expect from 2014’s dual-iPhone release.
But this is the first time we’ve seen both devices next to one another. It’s worth noting that neither image can be verified as authentic. All we have to go on is Dickson’s track-record which, like @evleaks’, is pretty bloody solid – the Australian teenager leaked tons of images of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c last year.
Dickson posted the images of the “dummy” units on Twitter over the weekend. As you can see in the pictures, neither handset has the trademark Apple logo on the backpanel. The “dummy” units are said to be reference designs used in Apple’s supply chain prior to mass-production.
Apple “apparently” sends these dummy handsets out to case and accessory-makers ahead of launch, too, so they can calibrate their production runs and releases to coincide with the advent of the new handsets. Although, again, this “rumour”, while plausible, has never been verified by Apple itself.
Also – these types of dummy handsets have been on sale in China for quite some time now, however, as before: it’s impossible to know whether they’re legit or just some type of money-grabbing scam… so make of it what you will.
iPhone 6 In Space Grey, Compared To HTC One M8
This week has been something of an iPhone 6 bonanza, with a big pile coming in courtesy of Sonny Dickson. And now we have a load more – this time from Weibo, China’s most popular social network. They’re similar to what we’ve already seen before although this is the first time we’ve seen a Space Grey unit. The "dummy units" is this shot are apparently based on actual beta builds of the iPhone 6 handset, meaning it's likely pretty close to what we'll see unveiled later this year.
And if that wasn’t enough – check out this video by Jude Prop, which appeared earlier today, and claims to show details gleaned from the iPhone 6’s official spec sheet. According to the video the iPhone 6 will feature a 10MP iSight camera on the rear and a 2MP FaceTime shooter on the front.
Both phones will have a screen resolution of 1704 x 960 and feature TouchID embedded inside the Home button. The A8 processor is also mentioned, as are the handset’s dimensions: 5.4 x 2.6 x 0.27in, making it quite a but slimmer than the iPhone 5s.
The price is also clearly visible at the top of the screen when the video first starts, and is listed as follows: $199 (16 or 32GB), $299 (64GB) and $399 (128GB).
As always: take this with a pinch of salt. UFOs and videos said to be showing paranormal activity, as well as iPhone leaks, can be easily faked. Still, it’s an interesting find all the same.
The iPhone 6 – according to recent rumours – will get a global release date on September 19. Additional reporting from BGR also adds weight to these claims. According to Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White Apple will release both new iPhones in quick succession.
“Our visit provided us with incremental confidence in the ramp of Apple’s product pipeline this fall,” White wrote in a note to clients obtained by BGR. “For example, our research indicates that Apple will launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in September, and we believe the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could be announced at a similar time or shortly thereafter in October. As such, we are confident that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be launched this year.”
