Samsung Galaxy Galaxy F Release Date Pegged For June-July: Smaller Bezel, Metal Chassis

By on 00:30

That was quick! Looks like Samsung is prepping an improved version of its Galaxy S5. Here’s everything we currently know

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime has been the subject of intense debate since, well, before the launch and release of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Way back in late-2013, multiple sources claimed Samsung’s next flagship would come in multiple versions and at multiple price points. At the top of the pile, said the reports, would be a premium affair known as the Galaxy S5 Prime.
And now it looks like the Galaxy S5 Prime could be with us very soon. According to @evleaks, the Galaxy S5 Prime is coming to Korea in five colours – black, white, gold, blue, and sweet pink.Tech-Radar backs up this claim suggesting the Galaxy S5 Prime could get a release date as early as mid-June.
The Radio Research Agency reportedly "signed off" on three device variants for each of South Korea's major carrier networks. These are designated SM-G906S, SM-G906K and SM-G906L. This information, in combination with earlier FCC certifications and other leaked information, does support the idea of the Galaxy F launching some time in June. Adding credence to the idea of an imminent launch, photos have begun to appear showing the premium-grade Galaxy S5 variant in the...er...metal.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Or... Samsung Galaxy F?

There's a bit of new information leaking out about the Galaxy S5 Prime. Interestingly, it might not be called the Galaxy S5 Prime at all, and there are a couple of possible candidates according to different sources. Twitter source @evleaks posted what appears to be an official product render of the handset with a brushed metal finish and with a reappearance of the earlier rumoured name: Samsung Galaxy F.

Another bit of info suggests the handset could be called the Galaxy Alpha. SamMobile's editor took to Twitter to suggest that this could be the name. The publication has a reliable track record with Samsung pre-launch info. Then it emerged that Samsung has filed a patent in the US for the Galaxy Alpha name.
While that's not conlcusive evidence, it does suggest that Samsung may release products under the Alpha name at some point.

Samsung Galaxy F Design

Rumour suggests the Galaxy F will feature a metal chassis, among other things like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 CPU, QHD display and 3GB of RAM. It’s a beast, to be sure. But so far we’ve seen little to no evidence of its apparent metallic outer body – Until now. GSM Arena has obtained an image of what is said to be the Galaxy F, detailing the handset’s iPhone 5s-like metallic outer chassis. Its not the clearest of images, but it does carry Samsung’s branding and trademark dimple effect.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is said to pack in a 5.3-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 3GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 805 as well as a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilization. No doubt the handset will launch on the next iteration of Android which will be unveiled by Google at 2014’s I/O developer conference later on in June.

Samsung Galaxy F Specs

Another interesting component of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime story comes via a new BluetoothSIG filing. Like the FCC in the US, when a new phone is poised for release, it has to go through a maelstrom of red tape before you, dear consumer, can use it. And this week a new Samsung handset (SM-G906L) popped up in a Bluetooth SIG filing.

What’s interesting about that particular model number is that we’ve seen it before – it’s the one most commonly associated with the Galaxy S5 Prime. Couple this with talk of a mid-June release and, well, you’ve got yourself a mighty strong case for a rebooted Galaxy S5 handset, no doubt replete with some new, advanced specs and hardware.

Samsung Galaxy F Release Date

As it stands most sources point to a release some time in September, meaning the Galaxy F will go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone 6. Launching this late would potentially allow for the handset to pack in Qualcomm’s latest silicon, as well as the most up to date version of Android which is expected to debut at Google I/O in June 2014.
