Motorola reentered into the Indian market with a bang and has managed to set a sales record with over a million Moto smartphones flying off the shelves in just 5 months. And while most of the credit goes to the pretty great devices made by the now Lenovo-owned company, Flipkart has been hard at work since it’s the sole supplier of the handsets in the country.
A million units of phones is quite a huge number and this will certainly put Motorola amongst the top OEMs in India. The sales figure is of the Moto X, Gand E smartphones combined and there’s no breakdown for each devices. However, it’s quite clear that the entry-level and mid-range handsets have been the hot sellers.
The Moto G is considered as the company’s most successful phone till date. And being the first to arrive in India, 20000 units were sold in just 15 minutes, notes TOI. At Rs 12499 for the 8GB model, the handset was the most attractive option available as it packed a 4.5-inch HD display, a quad core Snapdragon processor and the latest version of Android amongst others. Then there were numerous promotions on Flipkart which helped boost sales.
Compared to the Moto X flagship, the Rs 6999 entry-level Moto E has been a hot seller as well. It went out of stock on multiple occasions and at one point of time, Flipkart managed to sell 20000 units in just 5 minutes.
India is clearly an important market for Motorola and it has Lenovo to thank for its current success since it was only capable of commencing global operations post acquisition.
