CD Projekt Red, the developers of the hugely successful The Witcher franchise is now looking forward to expand the universe to the tablets and smartphones.
The game is known for its vast world, great single player campaigns and impressive visuals. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt has been scheduled to launch in 2015 for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Players might be able to experience their favorite, iconic characters even before the actual release of the game because this mobile version is going to completely authentic, according to the developers. “The mobile gaming scene is booming with so many titles but most of them are casual and usually don’t cater to the hardcore or even serious gamers. We are aiming to fill that void and it also helps us expand our title over different platforms so as to offer a wholesome experience,” said project manager Tadek Zielinski.
A Touch friendly MOBA
The Witcher Battle Arena is easy to learn and play because it has been specifically made for smartphones and tablets. The game is great on iPad and any Android tablets which got a decent sized screen. The objective is to take control of two of the three towers in the small map so as to drain the enemy teams’ points. The more you control, the sooner they will lose and a typical match lasts approximately ten minutes. Unlike MOBAs on PC and console, this one doesn’t force you to farm for experience points, which saves time. Besides, you can easily move your hero around by just clicking on the desired location or on the enemy so as to attack. The maps are small which eliminates any time spent in walking through and you have to go back to the start only to spend points earned by killing heroes. Each hero you control in the game has three different skills; two of them are common while one special skill is specific to the character.
F2P, Not Pay to Win
Sharing their views about the game, CD Projekt Red made one point very clear. They are not planning to create a pay to win game but rather a free to play game which will allow timely progress. It will not slow down players and will have a good set of heroes rather than limiting them to the bare minimum. The developers have also removed the wait time which is usually found in most free to play games. This feature will be a welcome relief for players who are fed up of the system. “You will be paying only to save time and maybe get special items quickly but it will not be a pay to win where money making is at the forefront. We are not that kind of a company and we want to give value to your players,” Zielinski added.
CD Projekt Red is not trying to go against DOTA or other popular MOBAs with The Witcher Battle Arena because they are relatively new in the industry. They are trying to fill in the slot where casual and hardcore gamers can come together to have a fair, challenging experience.
