Diablo 3's resolution on Xbox One will be bumped up to native 1080p with a launch-day patch, developer Blizzard Entertainment confirmed to Polygon today.
"With a day 1 (August 19th) patch the Xbox One version of the game will display in 1080p at 60 fps," said a Blizzard representative in an email to Polygon. The update was first reported by GameSpot.
Prior to installing the patch, the Xbox One version of Diablo 3 will run in 900p. Earlier, Blizzard had expressed hope that it would eventually be able to boost the resolution to 1080p, but indicated that it didn't expect to be able to get there by launch. The studio previously confirmed that the game runs in native 1080p on PS4; both versions feature a frame rate of 60 frames per second.
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition, the console package that includes the expansion Reaper of Souls, is set for release Aug. 19 on PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Existing PS3 and Xbox 360 players can transfer their characters to PS4 or Xbox One.
Activision Blizzard announced earlier this week that sales of Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls had reached a combined 20 million copies by the end of June. For more on the console version of Diablo 3, check out our preview from E3.
