Flipkart Digiflip Pro XT 712 - Review

By on 23:53

The affordable Android tablet market just got its newest challenger: Flipkart’s Digiflip Pro XT 712 tablet, which was launched today, is priced at Rs.9,999 and Flipkart has announced that anyone buying it will be eligible for a bunch of offers. We take a look at the offers, and how you can get the maximum benefit from each.

The offers
Flipkart has promised buyers “assured discounts worth Rs.5,000”. Users may assume that this would be in the form of gift vouchers added to their account when they buy the tablet. Technically, that is not the case. The conditions clearly state that you need to download and install the Flipkart app on the XT 712 after you have purchased it, and then shop on Flipkart from that app. That is when the discounts will kick in. Another condition states that the “offer is applicable only if the transaction size exceeds the conditional basket size for that category”. What the minimum purchase requirement for each category is, is not known.

What is clear is that Flipkart has a 30-day return policy, in case the user doesn’t like the tablet. What is not specified is whether the full billing amount will be credited back via the mode of payment at the time of purchase, or whether there will be gift vouchers/codes for that amount credited to the customer’s account.

The offers that raise no doubts include a Plantronics ML2 Bluetooth headset being bundled free with the XT 712, and a flat 50% off on the book-case cover, otherwise priced at Rs.799. Additionally, if you install the Flipkart e-books app on the tablet, you’ll be eligible for free e-books worth Rs.2,300.

The rivals
The Digiflip XT 712 lands in a price segment which has fairly established products al ready and waiting—the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Neo and the Dell Venue 7. We compare the XT 712 to a couple of its closest rivals, and see how it stacks up.

Processor:
The XT 712 packs in a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The Samsung Tab 3 Neo has a 1.2GHz quad core processor, while the Dell Venue 7 gets its power from a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor. Ideally, more cores don’t always mean more power. The Dell Venue shouldn’t be discounted, because it has a fairly recent Intel processor which offers good battery life. We cannot be too sure of the XT 712’s battery life and overall performance on the basis of specifications alone.

Calling capability:
The Digiflip XT 712 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Neo offer SIM-card slots, but the XT 712 goes a step further by offering dual-SIM slots. The HP Slate 7 Voice Tab, which costs upwards of Rs.13,500, offers such a feature. You can use these devices for voice calls, or simply to get 3G on the move. The latter feature is very useful if you are travelling and are unlikely to have Wi-Fi access everywhere. Dell’s tablet does not offer a SIM-card slot, and is restricted to Wi-Fi.
Display:
In terms of the screen, the Digiflip XT 712 has a 7-inch IPS (in-Plane Switching) display with a fairly high resolution of 1,280x800-pixels. The Tab 3 Neo falls behind here, with a 1,024x600-pixel, 7-inch screen. Dell’s Venue 7 also has a 7-inch IPS screen with a 1,280x800-pixel resolution.

Battery:
The XT 712 packs in a 3,000 mAh battery, which is less than the 3,600 mAh battery that Samsung offers in its Tab 3 Neo. The Dell Venue 7 seems to be the best on paper, with a 4,100 mAh battery. Of course, number
